Hardwood FAQ

Are you wondering if hardwood flooring is right for you, or aren’t sure how to take care of your new flooring? Here are some answers to the most common questions our customers ask about hardwood flooring:

Q: How do I know if my floors need to be replaced, or just need repair or refinishing?
A: Hardwood flooring can last for many years, but periodic maintenance, repairs, and refinishing is sometimes needed to keep it looking its best. If you’re concerned about the appearance or condition of your floors, it’s always best to consult an expert. An experienced hardwood flooring professional can assess the current condition of your floor and make a determination as to what services are needed to restore it to its original condition.

Q: Does the sanding process make a mess? Should I avoid staying in my home while my floors are being sanded?
A: We use a convenient, cutting-edge dustless sanding system that produces very minimal dust and keeps your home clean during the sanding process. Dust that results from sanding is channeled into a containment unit located outside of your home, so all that we will leave behind is beautiful flooring. There is no need to seal off areas of your home or find a place to stay during the sanding process.

Q: How do I maintain my new hardwood floors?
A: Caring for your new hardwood flooring is easy. Here are a few simple tips for keeping your new floors in top condition. These tips apply to all wood floor types, including oak and solid wooden flooring:

  • Dust mop, and vacuum regularly with soft bristle head.
  • Never use wax, silicone-based polish, oils soaps, solvents or pine based cleaners.
  • Damp-sponge mop, with minimal amount of water.
  • Clean floors periodically with a professional wood floor cleaner.
  • Allow finish to cure 3 weeks before using area rugs.
  • Use protective felt floor pads on chair legs and furniture.
  • Periodic buff and coat approximately every 3-7 years
  • Use a humidifier throughout the winter months to keep wood movement and shrinkage to a minimum.
  • Contact our team for products and service before floors show signs of wear.
